The Look (2/10) - First impressions can be everything, and my first impression was not good. The very first screen of the game pan's up on a picture of her in an illogical skimpy leather getup which made my eyes roll. Knowing that this was just the first screen of the game, I had hopes that her in-game look would be less cheesy. It wasn't. The character creation screen showed a character that was even worse looking. The proportion of the model and her body style was nowhere near accurate, and her choices in outfits were ridiculous. For example, one of your choices include a slant-cut mini skirt that shows off her underwear.
The good news is that as you gain armor, you start looking a little more practical. Additionally, the perspective view of the game makes the character look a lot less cheesy than she does in the character creation screen.
Attitude (9/10) - Alita is a mercenary and treats what she does as a means to an end, sometimes picking a more evil route to her goals. She's can be rude, somewhat cocky, impatient and she's no romantic. Yet at times she shows a strange compassion for people she doesn't know who can in no way help her achieve her goals. Her sense of loyalty to her savior is undeniable as is her hate for religion. Yet decisions will arise later in the game that offer different ways for her character to grow. Her path is not set. That's up to you to decide. All of this makes her a little unpredictable, a refreshing complexity that adds credit to the game.
Intelligence (7/10) - Not having heard her first spoken words until she was 14 years old, her language skills as an adult are amazingly good. And although she shows great loyalty to the man that saved her, she doesn't blindly follow the authority of the Inquisition, the organization he belongs to, without question. She has a mind of her own and she will come to drawn her own conclusions about the world she lives in.
Scripts (8/10) - At times, she comes across as rude in certain circumstances which is understandable considering she was locked in a cell and had no real social training until she was 14 years old. Her brutally honesty makes you wonder what is going to come out of her mouth next, making the unpredictability of her script interesting in itself.
Marketing Effort (10/10) - The box cover shows a partial headshot in shadow of a well-armored scarred woman with brilliant green eyes looking from behind a sword. She's not trying to entice consumers by smiling or winking or trying to be cute. You get a sense from the box alone that she is a fighter and a rather serious one. And you would be right.
