Originally the Soul Edge, a double-sword set of weapons, had been wielded by a deadly pirate named Cervantes. After the events of the first game, one of the blades was destroyed and Taki was able to retrieve on of the pieces. Being a powerful ninja woman and demon hunter, she was able to merge the piece with a demon blade of her own and discovered the combination of the two resulted in a weapon she could barely remain in control of.
Her clan leader became obsessed with her powerful demon blade and Taki realized it would be too dangerous to let it fall into his hands. She left her clan as a result and became a renegade ninja, set on bringing her blade against the remaining Soul Edge in hopes the two would destroy one another. The remaining Soul Edge was supposedly destroyed before she had the opportunity to do this and she was unable to complete her mission, forcing her to learn to maintain control and resist the evil influences of her demon blade.
She has discovered the Soul Edge was not completely destroyed, but that her former clan leader had in his possession a piece of it and was searching for more. She has set out on a new mission to save Japan from her clan leader by capturing the remaining Soul Edge pieces before he has an opportunity to and hopefully find a way to remove Soul Edge from the world for good.
Pros: As in Soul Edge and Soul Calibur, Taki is a strong ninja and skilled demon hunter. She possesses powerful martial arts knowledge and those of a more supernatural nature.
Cons: Taki has always focused on her training and hunting demons, and therefore has always been alone in her travels.
Overall: Taki is a strong and independent female character in all of the games, using speed and agility to make up for any lack of strength she may have in her fights. Her role in the previous two games has normally been more self-serving than intentionally helpful to others but this time around she is concerned with protecting all of Japan from destruction at the hands of a Soul Edge possessed clan leader.
