How many of you would feel so driven by a dream that you would fly off to another continent and partner with someone whom you had never actually met against the wishes of your entire family? I had the remarkable pleasure of interviewing one VERY GUTSY lady who did just that, the CEO of Himalaya Studios, Britney Brimhall. She is releasing her baby, her Adventure game Al Emmo, and WomenGamers.Com had the pleasure of giving it a spin.
AdventureGamer writes:
"Al Emmo, of course, is the highly-anticipated upcoming comic adventure that will remind everyone of the glory days of Sierra (without all the annoying parts, for those Sierra naysayers out there). The first original title by Himalaya, a new studio formed by the developers responsible for the acclaimed King's Quest 1 and 2 remakes, Al Emmo is a classic third-person, point and click adventure that follows the exploits of the 40-ish year old titular... um... hero (if one uses the word REALLY loosely) after becoming stranded in the desert town of Anozira. While competing with a Spanish prince for the heart of a lovely singer named Rita, soon Al is drawn deeper into the mystery of Rita's murdered father and the legend of hidden Aztec treasure, and the hunt for the Lost Dutchman's Mine is on. "
The characters are hilarious, the voices are truly memorable and I was laughing so hard that I nearly fell off my office chair. I felt I simply had to corner Britney before her busy launch to find out how she did it.
Circe: Firstly, the game is HILARIOUS. Who on Earth came up with the dialogue and the the ideas for the character personalities?
Britney: Haha, yes, we definitely set out to make a humorous game. I developed the characters many years back, while living abroad in Germany, based on many real life personalities that I knew. Daniel Stacey, the designer of King's Quest II VGA, then took my original ideas, fleshed them out, and created the really funny dialogue.
Also, we had a highly talented voice actor, by the name of John Bell, who would often do impromptu work, creating his own hilarious lines. We included a lot of those in the game as well.
Circe:: You actually KNOW someone like the lead character? <heehee>
Britney: Yes, I actually DO. He was based a bit off of an old teacher that I had, with a lot of Woody Allen thrown in for good measure:)
