Bella: Yes it still happens unfortunately. I still have some guys say we must be fat to play which I find pretty sad. Another example is we just scrimmed some guys a few months ago and beat them by quite a lot. Near the end of the game, one of them said "I doubt you girls look as good as you play." To which one of our girls replyed "I sure hope you guys look better than you play." It made me laugh and the rest of the girls. Most of the insults I hear revolve around the idea that girls can't be normal people if they enjoy videogames. But we are. I'm a mother of three which keeps me VERY busy and playing videogames is just something I do when I have time.

Electra: Yes some have. The obscene language does occur from time to time. The basic names of course from guys who can't play as well as some of the girls.
X-quisite: YES! OMG. They think because we are girls that we can't play the game. But then when we do well it's "Oh you're not a girl, you're just pretending to be one, blah blah blah".
Foxy: All the time. Definitely when I first started back in 2002 and not a lot of girls were too interested (well, I rarely found any unless they decided not to speak up), and people always asked if I was a little boy. Then when I'd tell them I was a girl, I'd get more harassment. Either guys try to hit on you, try to teamwound/teamkill you to piss you off, or say some pretty nasty things. Doesn't happen a lot now though. I still get the guys who try to hit on me, but there's such a thing as "mute".
*wS*DarkAngel: Always. I think just the fact that males are being challenged in a game that they think is "theirs" and the fact that females are coming in, I think they just want to be cocky and try to pick us up from the internet.
Geek Woman: What do you think is important for game developers to know about women that play war games?
Electra: I think game developers need to remember that they should keep objectives simple, and the graphics high quality.
X-quisite: Maybe in the near future it would be nice to see a female player character. It would for sure make us feel that it isn't a "man's game" and we would feel more welcome and proud to be a female gamer.
Peach: I think it's very important that they realize that it's a growing number. Also, girl clans and players are some of the best promoters for games. I don't think they necessarily have to change a lot in the development of games, except my personal preference is away from themes where exploitation of women is present.
Oh Snap: I mean in WWII no girls were fighting, there were mostly nurses, so they can't really make a girl model for that, but maybe in the newer games they can, but it's not that important to me.
Desert Rose: They should make women characters also.Articles on WomenGamers.Com solely reflect the experiences and perspectives of the author(s). Feel free to agree or disagree in the accompanying forum thread.
