The characters all have a good range of weapons and healing abilities that are derived from the original story. The adherence to the integrity of the series is perfect. At no time do you get the feeling that people who weren't familiar with Inuyasha were working on it. That alone is a big plus when it comes to transferring a popular anime to a game. Enemies are varied and are drawn better than average. The backgrounds and the art style are also very pretty as you would expect with the high quality artwork from the series.
The graphics themselves are mostly 2D, and aren't very good by comparison to other games that have more depth of field. It would seem that the RPGs can go either way, some sacrifice the length of game-play for slick graphics and cut-scenes. Others sacrifice 3D graphics in favor of giving a more vast dungeon experience.
Like many Final Fantasy - esque games from back in the early RPG era the enemies randomly ambush the party frequently. The items and talismans that you can collect and build allow you to reduce or even increase the number of random battles that you encounter. One thing that the game lacks is a map screen. Making a game seem longer by getting you lost and making you go through the confusing trial and error process of finding the path is a lame way to rack up hours of game play and it isn't forgivable in this day and age of games not to have a map function. Despite the disadvantage of playing a dungeon game with no map, it is long, vast and challenging. The battles though simple were also addictive.
Inuyasha: Secret of the Divine Jewel looks good and it is something that fans of the anime series will definitely enjoy. The games in the franchise are improving with each release. Inuyasha : Feudal Combat was the best PS2 RPG in the series so far, hopefully that trend will continue.
