Wireless Game for Women With a Cause

Postby Atari on Tue Jan 30, 2007 3:06 pm

GOSUB 60 is a small, independent company that has decided to make a big impact by stepping up to address the growing number of women in the gaming industry. This year, the company launched a game called Bliss, creatively designed specifically with a female demographic in mind. NonStarvingArtists.com has the story.

Kellie Hartwell, VP Business Development for the company, explains, "For me the inspiration for this product came when I was reviewing company stats." According to a PR Newswire press release, a survey from mobile market authority M:Metrics in October of 2006 revealed that GOSUB 60 ranked 8th mobile games publisher in the United States. "I had this realization that we had influence," Kellie says, "our art and text and game-play was in the hands of more people than I could have ever believed possible. So what if we used our powers for good? That's what started the fury of almost kinetic brainstorming activity that led us to cause marketing with Breast Cancer Research. It was such a cool thing to be making a sound business decision with a cause that could potentially help save lives."

Finally...some recognition for the mobile games industry.

First, it is nice to see that the mobile games industry is getting some recognition. It is a relatively untouched market with HUGE potential, especially when it comes to women. I also like that this game benefits something that is extremely important, primarily to women, but men as well. Breast Cancer is a huge concern for many women. I would download the game just to support the cause. Looking at the graphics I must say it is quite pleasing. I like that they are not overly feminine (I really hate an overabundance of pink and purple). Though the game is clearly oriented towards women, I could see a number of men getting some enjoyment out of it as well.

As a game, I personally couldn't see what made it something that was oriented towards women. I've no idea what that means though.
It looks smart none the less.
