<a HREF="http://engine.womengamers.com/members/bio.php3?handle=atari">Atari</A> takes a good look at the Final Fantasy 7 women: <a HREF="http://www.womengamers.com/dw/tifa.html">Tifa Lockheart</A>, <a HREF="http://www.womengamers.com/dw/aeris.html">Aeris Gainsborough</A>, and <A HREF="http://www.womengamers.com/dw/yuffie.html">Yuffie Kisaragi</A>.
As you can probably surmise from my online name, I am very much a deeply devoted fan of Aerith Gainsborough (known as Aeris in the American version). I was incredibly livid after reading her review. First of all, I think Aerith was a far, *FAR* stronger woman than Tifa was, in fact I would say that Tifa takes women in games a step back. She is obviously made to look like Lara Croft, but unfortunately she was not made with the Divine Ms. Croft's emotional and spiritual strength. Tifa is the stereotypical male fantasy--buxom, submissive, with not a mind of her own. You claim that Aerith was a "damsel in distress". Yet it was not Aerith but *TIFA* (whom you gave a higher score to) who stated, "I want my hero to come rescue me some day" (paraphrased). Aerith was *BY FAR* the strongest character in Final Fantasy 7. Strength is not always measured in hitpoints and damage modifiers. In fact, even in terms of damage, Aerith was stronger than Tifa. Magical attacks always do far more damage than physical attacks, any rank third grade D&D player can tell you that. But I digress. Obviously this reviewer did not pay attention very well while playing Final Fantasy 7, if he/she did so at all. Any idiot that can read could see Aerith's intelligence and emotional and spiritual strength. She was the one that knew the secret of the White Materia before anyone else, not even Sephiroth. And it was Aerith that left, unafraid, to face Sephiroth ALONE in the City of Ancients. And what was Tifa doing? Pining over a man who she treated worse than crap when they were children. Tifa is one of the worst, if not *the* worst female characters in an RPG that I can remember. She is whiny, self-delusional, and a coward. This "woman" literally *clinged* to Cloud. It frankly made me ill (I admit, I am biased, I think Cloud and Aerith made the perfect couple). Tifa treated Cloud like garbage when they were children. And she had the nerve to delude herself into thinking they were close. She is the worst woman imaginable, a terrible role-model. A fickle coward who won't own up to her mistakes of the past. A sniveling emotional wreck who can't express her feelings. And this cow rated higher than Aerith, a woman of such virtue that she sacrificed herself for the good of the Planet? My only question is: What planet was this reviewer on?

I hate to brake it to ya, but Aeris is a pansy. <br><br>"Oh Cloud, *insert cutesy line here*. Oh Cloud, *insert another cutesy line here*. What should I do? Save me Cloud!"<br><br>Dread

Besides whats wrong with submissive women with no mind of their own. *That was a joke, so don't give me any angry comments, hehe*
Jesus, why do these Japanese idiots always make such ugly drawings of people with big staring eyes, is it because they would like to have these themselves???

What's up with the over exaggerated huge eyes? Clearly you do not understand. It is a form of Japanese drawing called Anime. (Big eyes.) That is how it's done. You should look it up before you decide to talk about them. Oh and btw I am not Japanese so don't even say I'm biased. You're the one that seems to be biased. If you don't like the way they make the games don't look or buy them.
You are SO right! And its not as if Tifa never uses the cutesy lines either. "Oh Cloud come closer!" "Go Cloud Go Cloud" yes those are both lines that Tifa used. AND she lied about Cloud's past. I'm sorry but if she would've just come out with the truth at the beginning that whole mess would'nt have happened.
look, i dont want to sound mean, but, ARE YOU A HUGE IDIOT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? aris deserves more than a 7, id have given her a 10! i mean if you get so into a character that you come close to crying when they die i think a better score would be in order. Also i dont understand what you find wrong with her (i mean the most common complaint here is that the character has bigger boobs, longer legs, smaller hips, ect. than you! i think she has one of the most realistic forms in any game!) i dont think she is naive, she is just a nice person, she knows that most people cant be trusted, she just wishes it wasnt true and likes to give everyone a chance. she is probably the only character in a game ive actually developed a crush on.

<br> if you ask me i think the people around here arnt all that objective in their reviews. I think you tend to judge the character based on their looks compaired to you. I think you put too merit in the idea every one should be a strong, inteligent person who doesnt care what people think and lets their boddy go down the crapper. if they are making a character with "dumb blond whore" in mind you should judge that character on how well it fits the role of a dumb blond whore, not how much it fits the role of a strong inteligent woman. i dont think game developers should be punished for not creating your ideal woman. now agree with you giving lara croft a bad score, she doesnt fit the role of a treasure hunter. but some of the characters that you have given bad scores were given those scores becouse they look better than you.

I agree, I love Anime, it's not meant to be true to life and if you don't like it don't buy it or whatever.
I think Sister Aerith is perfectly correct. I just can't beleive they killed her, I got so angry when it happened, i'd grown so attached to her, I played the whole game as if Aerith was the most important character, and she was to me. Anyway, i'd have easily given her a nine, although perhaps I am a man so maybe I don't really know what you were judging her as in your opinion of a perfect digital woman. You have to be completely emotionless not to be upset when she gets killed.
In my opinion Tifa Lockhart of Final Fantasy VII totally brings out girl power in a video game. Sure she may dress a little on the skimpy side, but she acts really cool and fights very well. Not only is she pretty but she has an awesome attitude. Also I relate to her in a love triangle with a guy I have known since I was a child, then he moved away, but when I went to a private school 1 hour away from home he was there! It must have been destined. But he likes this other girl and me. Anyway, Tifa Lockhart is my role model and possibly the best female video game charecter ever [in my opinion.]
