Sony announced a lilac purple PSP geared towards girls.  Their marketing campaign pretty stereotypically goes after this market by featuring titles like Hannah Montana: Rock Out the Show, Pets: Dogs Family, and LocoRoco 2.

Although I applaud the effort to bring more color variety to the PSP, I'm also left shaking my head in dismay. You have but to look as far as Apple to understand how to market hardware colors right.  Apple doesn't tell you what a "lilac" consumer is like.  Apple lets you pick the color that you identify with.  So if you're a 60 year old man, a mother of 2, a boy in college or a girl in middle school... you are free to pick whatever color resonates with who you are.

Why is it that so many companies don't understand this?
