PRESS KIT - THE
GAME - SCREENSHOTS - MOVIES

This
morning our receptionist Donna buzzed us and told
us we had received a new "mystery package"
from a gaming company. As usual, half of us went
flying
down the hall itching to rip open the heavily taped
box like kids on Christmas morning. (Although this
ritual happens several times per week, we never
ever seem to get less enthusiastic about it.)
Lo
and behold a black briefcase with the words "OddWorld
Inhabitants" surprised us as we pulled the
box open. We wanted to share with you an overview
of the game descriptions and screenshots we found
inside.
The
Game
Munch's
Oddysee is the second game in the OddWorld series
currently in development for Playstation 2 and powered
by OddWorld's A.L.I.V.E. game engine. (And no, that
is the real way that they are spelling "Oddysee"....)
World
Simulation. This unique, real-time 3D game focuses
on world simulation and the behaviors of characters
and eco-systems. The game allows one to simulate
entire life cycles of all the characters, communities
and even landscapes in the world based on highly
complex behavioral, simulation, and social chemistry
models. One can nurture and destroy both the characters
in the game as well as the environment. (Notice
the first 2 screenshots below to see changes in
environmental settings.)
Storyline.
You play the hero Munch who, as a last survivor
of his species, is living in the animal testing
department of a pharmaceutical research company.
Why? Because they have long been killed for their
delicious eggs and their lungs (they make good transplants).
In Munch's Odyssey, you will play both Munch and
Abe (the hero from the prequel Abe's Odyssey) as
you maneuver through the plot and interact with
the game's evolving enemies.
Future
Plans. What do the guys at OddWorld have planned
for the future? Well, within a year after Munch's
Odyssey is finished they will release OddWorld:
The Hand of Odd, the first game in the OddWorld
set that offers multiplayer interaction.
Release
Date. It is OddWorld's goal to launch Munch's
Odysee simultaneously with the Playatstation 2 in
the US and Europe.
Impressions.
This game sounds like it could be a lot of fun.
It also seems as if it merges adventure with strategy
as well as components of those nurturing simulation
games where you play "God" on a civilization
or a creature. The changing of the environment depending
on your actions is also one that appeals to me.
This is one game that I will certainly keep track
of. For more information on the game check out http://www.oddworld.com
.
ScreenShots
Movies
I
highly recommend that you check out the OddWorld
movies posted on GamersRepublic.
They really depict the wonderful uniqueness of this
game.
I
especially like the one that shows how the cinematic
3D engine works.
