Overall
Impression:
My
family arrived for Christmas bringing a game called Elite
Darts by Patch as a gift. Well, the other day it was just
too cold and windy for the traditional daily game of darts
on the back porch overlooking the sea, so my son in law,
Billy, and I decided to load up the cyber version of darts.
We just stuck in CD into the machine and after a couple
of sips of some cold beer we were in business. The game
loaded up with no problems what so ever... smooth. Well
we first just dived into the dart game of baseball but were
met with disaster. No way could we get a dart to hit the
target much less reach the electronic board.
A
couple of sips of beer solved the problem... Go to practice.
After a little practice we went back to the game and had
a load of fun. The cyber version of darts by Patch is based
upon skill and not luck. The more one plays the better one
gets at coming close to the target. Unfortunately for me,
either Billy is better coordinated than me or didn't drink
as much beer for soon he was getting close to hitting every
thing that he was throwing at while I was still having trouble
just getting the dart to hit the board. A little thought
solved the problem....Switch bounce in my $10 mouse. As
soon as I depressed the left mouse button the dart would
launch instead of letting me release it as I wanted. Well
this problem was solved as I noticed that Billy was depressing
both mouse buttons and releasing them together.
How
fun is Elite Darts? Very fun. Is it as fun as a real dart
game? No, but is very fun to play and much safer than real
darts which have sharp steel points, for small children.
It also does not require as much space and does not produce
a multitude of tiny holes in the walls from misses. Does
it take as much skill as a real dart game? No, but it is
a game based upon skill and not luck which appeals to me
and I suppose many others. Is it as hard to acquire throwing
skill as a real dart game? No and one can acquire the skill
needed to be competitive fairly easily; however, expert
skill requires both practice and good hand/eye coordination.
